negotimer Privacy Policy

This is an English translation of the Japanese privacy policy. If the two differ, the Japanese version prevails.

Our approach

negotimer (“the App”) is a timer that helps run short pitches at networking events, meetups and similar gatherings. It is available for iPhone, Android and Windows.

The data the App handles (your timer settings, your recordings and so on) stays entirely on your device and is never sent to us.

There is one exception. If you buy Pro for the Windows version, we receive and keep your name and email address in order to process the payment and send you a license key (see “In-app purchases”). Unless you make that purchase, we do not receive any information about you.

Data the App handles

The App stores the following data, which you enter or create, on your device only:

This data:

The App does not collect personal information such as your name, email address, phone number or location. There is no account registration or sign-in. (Only if you buy Pro for the Windows version do we receive your name and email address as part of the payment. See “In-app purchases”.)

Recording (Pro)

In Pro, you can record audio in sync with the timer.

⚠️ When recording at an event, please use it responsibly — for example, tell participants in advance that you are recording. The App does not do this for you.

The Windows version

The Windows version is for using the timer in online meetings. This section explains how it differs from the phone versions.

Showing the timer as a “camera”

To show the timer in your meeting tool, the Windows version registers the App in Windows’ list of cameras. Meeting tools see it as an ordinary camera.

Recording (Pro)

On Windows, recording captures two sources together:

The two are mixed into a single audio file. In other words, what other participants say is recorded too.

⚠️ When recording an online meeting, tell every participant in advance that you are recording and get their agreement. A recording that includes other people’s words should never be made without telling them. The App does not do this for you.

Playing timer sounds into the meeting

You can choose to let meeting participants hear the timer’s sound cues. In that case, the App only outputs the cues to the playback device you choose.

Joining a meeting

When you enter a meeting code, the App opens a browser window dedicated to the timer and joins the meeting from that window.

Ads

The Windows version shows no ads, and no data is collected by AdMob.

Advertising

The free version of the App shows ads provided by Google AdMob (Google LLC). To serve ads and measure their effectiveness, AdMob may collect data such as device identifiers — including the advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, advertising ID on Android) — and usage information. For details, see Google’s Privacy Policy.

On iOS, an App Tracking Transparency prompt may appear, for example when you first launch the App. If you do not allow tracking, ads are still shown but without tracking. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

In the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK and Switzerland, the App uses Google’s consent tool (the User Messaging Platform) to ask for your consent before ads are personalised. You can accept, refuse, or choose purposes one by one. If you refuse, ads are still shown but without personalisation (limited ads). You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from Settings → “Ad privacy choices” in the App.

Once you buy Pro (a one-time purchase), ads are no longer shown and AdMob no longer collects data through the App.

In-app purchases

Buying and restoring Pro (no ads + recording) is handled through the payment systems of the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). Payment information is managed by each store; we never have access to it. The only thing the App receives is whether you have purchased. Information related to payment is handled under each store’s privacy policy.

Pro for the Windows version does not go through the App Store or Google Play. Payment is processed by Stripe (Stripe, Inc.), which manages your payment information. We never have access to payment details such as card numbers. Information related to payment is handled under Stripe’s Privacy Policy.

When your payment is complete, Stripe notifies us, and we automatically issue a license key and send it to the email address you used to pay. At that point we receive and store your name, email address, the amount paid, the payment identifier and the license key we issued. We keep these to resend keys and to answer your enquiries. We do not provide them to any third party.

License keys are verified entirely on your PC. The App never contacts our servers to check them, and no internet connection is needed.

Users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland (GDPR)

This section applies if you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland. It explains how we meet the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection.

What we process, why, and on what legal basis

Data Purpose Legal basis How long we keep it
Name, email address, amount paid, payment identifier and license key (Windows Pro only) Issuing and resending your license key, answering your enquiries Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) For as long as you may need the key, and for the period required by Japanese tax and accounting law (up to 7 years)
The content of emails you send us Answering your enquiry Our legitimate interest in responding (Art. 6(1)(f)) Until the enquiry is resolved, then deleted within 1 year
Advertising identifiers and usage data collected by Google AdMob (free version) Showing and measuring ads Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), collected through Google’s consent tool Google handles this under its own policy; see Google’s Privacy Policy

Your timer settings and recordings stay on your device and are never sent to us, so we do not process them.

Transfers outside Europe. We are based in Japan. The European Commission and the UK have recognised Japan as providing an adequate level of data protection. Switzerland has not. If you are in Switzerland, we receive your personal data in Japan only where this is directly connected with the conclusion or performance of a contract with you (Article 17(1)(b) of the Federal Act on Data Protection), such as issuing and resending your license key and answering your enquiries about it. Payment data is handled by Stripe and ad data by Google under their own safeguards for international transfers.

Your rights. You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time (for ads: Settings → “Ad privacy choices”); this does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it. To exercise these rights, email ozaki@shikumill.com. We will reply within one month.

Automated decisions. We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing, including profiling, that produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affect you.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority — in the EEA, the one for the country where you live or work (list); in the UK, the ICO; in Switzerland, the FDPIC.

Sharing with third parties

We do not provide your information to third parties except where required by law.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will announce it in the App or on the store page.
